How TPAG Nurtures Occupational Therapists

One of the main ways we ensure a supportive environment at TPAG is our commitment to building strong relationships via mentorship, guidance, and having fun. Whether you're a new graduate or a more experienced OT, we provide multiple opportunities for regular connection with senior staff, both clinical and non-clinical, and the broader team, because we recognise we have a wealth of experience in the whole team.

We have deliberately scaffolded different methods of connection within the team, to ensure internal relationships can be built on and nurtured. This might look like all team meetings, group messaging channels where we can talk about our lives, or celebrate and acknowledge staff wins, or the fun we have making our reels for Instagram.

You will have a dedicated Therapy Coordinator to be a conduit between you and your clients, but more than that, they are your support person at TPAG. They will know you and your clients, be a source of information, organise your appointments, and more. They will know your preferences, be someone your clients know and trust, and ensure the smooth running of your day.

We have a thoughtfully curated orientation program, that isn’t just for a few weeks, this is an extensive and long-term program, and just so you know, the learning never stops at TPAG!

Our orientation program will help you learn our ways, but more than that, it is really all about you and your development. You will have a direct supervisor, and a dedicated OT buddy as well, plus weekly opportunities to connect with the whole clinical team. The purpose of this is to continually create opportunities for discussion, where questions can be asked, and brainstorming and the free flow of ideas occurs. You will also have 1:1 supervision and group supervision with other OTs, and the ability to reach out at any time you need to anyone in our team for any questions or support you may need.

You will be encouraged to be curious, query our processes and be an instigator of continuous improvement in our organisation. We will build confidence in you to do this with ease and we are proud of the culture we have where this is normalised.

At TPAG we believe that collaboration is key to achieving the best outcomes for our clients, and we take a holistic approach.  This means that our occupational therapists work closely with other healthcare professionals, which in turn provides opportunities for learning and growth as you engage with stakeholders from different disciplines. Through this, your skills as a clinician will evolve as your knowledge base expands, while providing great opportunities to build relationships also.

We believe in investing in our occupational therapists' continuous growth and development. That's why we offer paid CPD, so you can take the time you need to develop your skills and areas of interest. We also offer a paid day to shadow with another team member, so you can learn more about being an OT and keep building on your relationships. When our OTs complete CPD they also share their learning with the broader team, helping facilitate further growth in your knowledge.

We understand that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for occupational therapists to thrive both personally and professionally, so much so, that it is one of our three organisational values. That's why we prioritise flexibility and offer options for part-time, full-time, and adjust these wherever possible to suit where our OTs are at in different stages of their life.
